Simon, along with many others, saw the importance of creating something unique in Hereford—an opportunity for our children to play at a higher level, develop their skills, and grow in a sport they love. While the county boasts a strong junior league, it’s vital that players also have the chance to showcase their talent within a regional league.

Football has always been Simon’s passion. He began chasing the dream of a professional contract, with spells at Bury and Plymouth Argyle, but when that door closed, another opened. Simon went on to enjoy senior football in the Midland Alliance and a long spell in the League of Wales.

In 2004, Simon chose to follow another dream—joining the military, like his father. This didn’t end his football journey; in fact, it expanded it. He played at Step 3 and overseas in Germany and Cyprus. It was during his time in Germany that Simon began his coaching career, playing and coaching for a German team while working toward his UEFA badges, eventually attaining his UEFA B.

Simon’s youth coaching truly flourished during his time in Canada. He converted his UEFA qualifications to the North American equivalent, enabling him to coach at provincial level and within the college system. He became part of a highly successful soccer association—an experience that inspired the model for HDC.

Of all Simon’s achievements, founding the HDC to give Hereford’s kids the chance to compete across the Midlands stands out as one of his proudest moments.
